Hibernian Radio Podcast

Saturday March 2, 2019

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal and Mike Haggerty Buick/GMC/Volkswagen present The Hibernian Radio Hour on WSBC 1240AM. Tonight, in our continual effort to honor Irish First Responders, we welcome Chicago Police Sgt. Dan Shine to the show. Dan is a delightful guy with lots of great stories for us. Dan tells me he was “made in Canaryville”, but grew up in St. Gerald’s parish and graduated from DeLaSalle, where many mayors went. Some have even called Danny “The Mayor of Mt. Greenwood!” He’s a 23-year veteran of the police force, a Navy veteran, and a proud Southside Irishman. He tells us some great stories of being on the job, particularly working the Midnight Gang Team from 2005-2008, nights at the 6511 Club, a bastion of Irish music back in the day, encounters with Horse Keane and Michael Flatley there, and he’s been to Ireland 15 times and has been blessed with the blarney. Danny could fill two or three shows with his stories, so we plan on having him return soon. Then we hit the obits, and sneak into Houli-Town for some “Who Cares?” and some jokes, and don’t forget our Paddy’s Day celebration coming up next Wednesday at Lizzie’s when Liam Durkin will drop by along with International Rose of Tralee Maggie McEldowney and Chicago Rose of Tralee Katie Callahan, as well as comedian Pat Chase and some “mystery guests”. The craic will be mighty!
