Oak Lawn Police Officer of the Year, Finbarr Haran

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, Mike Haggerty Buick/GMC/Volkswagen, and Personal Injury Attorney Caroleann Gallagher present The Hibernian Radio Hour on WSBC 1240AM. This week we welcome Officer Finbarr Haran to the show, with nine years of duty under his belt along with the presidency of his union, and being a Local 134 Union Electrician, he’s a very busy Irishman. Finbarr is one of 13 children of the late Pat and Margaret Haran from Count Mayo, and Finbarr has seven kids of his own. The Lions Club last year recognized Finbarr as Oak Lawn Police Officer of the Year. Finbarr tells us that growing up in a huge family prepared him for the job, with all the different personalities in play. He says Oak Lawn is still a great community where there are “a lot of people that love the police still”. Christ Hospital, with its trauma unit and non- stop gun-shot victims, keeps things interesting for Finbarr and his fellow cops. His mother Margaret and brother John Paul are with us at Lizzie’s for the interview, “We learned our work ethic from watching our parents.” Classy guy. Then it’s obits, Irish American News plugs, Barney Callaghan’s and Twisted Shamrock, some Houli-Town with a brief “Who Cares?” and a couple jokes as we head out the door. Don’t miss this one folks!

Houli with Finbarr at Lizzie McNeill’s.
