Sean O’Dowd
McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, Mike Haggerty Buick/GMC/Volkswagen and Personal Injury Attorney Caroleann Gallagher present The Hibernian Radio Hour and this week we’re putting a brief hold on our First Responders theme. Our special guest is Sean O’Dowd, President of the Illinois Ancient Order of Hibernians who has been a member of the AOH since 2001. His father emigrated to the States from Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan in 1948. Sean is here to promote the AOH event on Friday, Nov. 15th where they will be hosting CEO of ‘Relatives for Justice‘, Mark Thompson. ‘Relatives for Justice’ is an Irish based human rights NGO that provides support services to the victims and the families of The Troubles in Ireland. Mark, whose own brother was shot and killed by the British, will be speaking at Lizzie McNeill’s at 12pm and at The Irish American Heritage Center at 7pm on Nov. 15th. Make sure not to miss this very unique event! Sean and Houli discuss Brexit, the work of fearless Bronx attorney, Martin Galvin and some of the atrocities that took place over the years in Northern Ireland. This interview is a real eye-opener to Ireland’s troubled past. We take a musical break with Timmy O’Connor of O’Connor’s Pub in Killarney, with his rendition of “Muirsheen Durkin”. Houli reads this week’s Obits, local Irish American news and takes us to our final stop at ‘Houli-Town’. Don’t forget we will be hosting our 2nd Annual Hooligan Ball on Dec. 15th at McGaffer’s Saloon!
