Jim Moriarty

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal and Personal Injury Attorney Jim McGing present the Hibernian Radio Hour. We continue on our Police Pub Tour at The Emerald Isle in Edison Park and this week we’re joined by retired 28 year CPD veteran, Jimmy Moriarty Jr. Jimmy wastes no time and delves straight into his family heritage with Houli. Both his grandfather and father were cops as well as five of his siblings and extended family! Jim discusses his retirement and what he’s doing to stay busy. He grew up in St. Lucy’s Parish and later moved to St. Thecla’s Parish in ’69. Houli and Jim share fond memories of the ‘old west side’. He began working in the 14th district before moving into Gang Crimes – This guy has had many titles including SWAT and Narcotics. Jim has a lot of important points to make about the chaos going on in Chicago right now and he’s certainly not wrong. “Where’s the middle ground?” he says, referring to the public’s current tumultuous relationship with the CPD. The infamous case of Anthony Porter and the pension system are hot topics with these lads. “We need good to triumph over evil once again” –  some wise final words from our wonderfully interesting first guest. What a great guy with even better stories!

Judge John Curry

Our second guest this week is the Honorable Judge John Curry. He is currently a Cook County Circuit Judge and he is on the ballot for retention this November. John has a very impressive resume – including currently working on civil cases at The Daley Center and previous work as an Attorney with the United States Department of Justice in Washington during the Reagan administration. He delves into the duties that come with a job like that. John and our sponsor, Jim McGing, share a connection with their ancestors who both hailed from County Mayo. John recounts meeting Jim’s mother and her sharing memories of his father with him. What a story! He grew up in Resurrection Parish with his 5 younger sisters and attended St. Joseph’s High School in Westchester. Politics and the judiciary system are prominent topics between these guys. Don’t forget to vote for Judge John Curry on November’s ballot! Houli brings us up to date on the recent obituaries and then we hear “Danny Boy” by Johnny Cash, chosen by the winner of this week’s caption contest, Daniel Rankin. Houli ends this week’s show with a quick joke, as always!
