McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, Personal Injury Attorney Jim McGing, Fox’s Pizza, Tullamore Dew and the Cork and Kerry Irish Pub present the Hibernian Radio Hour. We continue on our Police Pub Tour back at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Western Avenue and this week we’re joined by retired Homicide Detective, Bernie Banahan Bernie grew up in Visitation Parish and attended De La Salle high school. He chats to Houli about the jobs he held before joining the Force and how he came to join the Homicide Division afterward. Bernie has some eye-opening stories to share from his time as a Detective and he shares all including the story about how they caught a 15 year old serial rapist and the time he made his most rewarding arrest. The Grant Park murderer, Lester Harrison, is a hot topic with Bernie who worked on that case in the 70s and he and Houli discuss the seriousness of the job and how the work affects cops differently. This guy has some incredibly insightful stories from his extensive career and he certainly doesn’t hold back! Bernie worked as security for Motorola after leaving CPD and he now spends a lot of his time in Arizona. He ends his interview by giving his take on the current tension between law enforcement and their local communities. Houli brings us up to date on this week’s obituaries followed by a well-needed stop at ‘Houli-Town’. We hear some great music from our musical guests, Jimmy Cloonan and Liam Durkin, who play us out again this week!
