Sgt. Sue Kenny
McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, Personal Injury Attorney Jim McGing, Fox’s Pizza, Tullamore Dew and the Cork and Kerry Irish Pub present the Hibernian Radio Hour. We continue on our Police Pub Tour back at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Western Avenue and this week we welcome Sergeant Sue Kenny to the show. Sue has been working with CPD for 22 years and has a plethora of stories to share with us from her years on the job. She grew up in Tinley Park and tells Houli how she got the bug to join the Force through her first volunteer position. Sue has received many awards over the course of her career including a Life Saving Award and 2013 Officer of the Month from the CPD Memorial Foundation. She delves into the ‘Life Saving Award’ and the heroic incident that led to her being honored with this special award. She and Houli also discuss Sue’s family life and the origins of her lovely nickname, Suzy Q. She shares many crazy stories from her time on-duty, including the criminal who fled via the house roof and another about a late night call to a domestic call where a young man was on PCP. Sue and Houli then discuss their personal takes on the current social unrest in the country and Sue shares some advice with her fellow officers – “Don’t give up and think positive!”. Sue delves into her Irish heritage and shares some stories from her previous trips to the beautiful Emerald Isle. This lady is a gem and we were blessed to have had her join us on the show! Houli then brings us up to date on the recent obituaries followed by a musical break with “Take Me Home To Mayo” by Dublin City Ramblers. We finish up another exciting show this week with a final trip to “Houli-Town” and some tunes from Jimmy Cloonan and Liam Durkin.

So proud of my cousin Suzy Q
As you should be Mary Carol, she’s a credit to the great Chicago Police Department and a fine example of our modern day Irish mythological warriors who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. Thanks for listening!
Nice show Houli! Sue Kenny seems to be a classy lady!
She is indeed Tom, thanks for listening!
Amazing show as usual and an amazing police officer. I don’t want to admit how long I’ve know her but let’s just say it’s been many a year. I had the great opportunity of being her dispatcher for many of these stories and could almost relive them as she was telling them. Her and her partners used to keep us on our toes and I do believe my partner, Patrick, and I became better at our job because of great officers like her and they crazy things they would find on the streets while most of Chicago was peacefully sleeping. She was always a pleasure to work with no matter what the mood of the day. Even though I’m retired now, Suzy Q still finds the time check on me as we have become great friends over the years. Thank you for interviewing her, and others, and letting your audience know how wonderful our boys and girls in blue are. ❤️
Karen, she is all that and then some! Thanks for listening!
Loved it Sue, didn’t realize you were raised in Tinley. Bea and I sons also went to Andrew.
Thanks for listening Dominic.
My favorite Chicago Police Officer!
