Billy Leen

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, Personal Injury Attorney Jim McGing, Fox’s Pizza, Tullamore Dew and the Cork and Kerry Irish Pub present the Hibernian Radio Hour. We continue on our Police Pub Tour back at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Western Avenue and this week we welcome 4th generation Police Officer, retired Commander Billy Leen. Billy wastes no time and brings Houli back through all of those 4 generations and shares some of the best stories about his family, including the story about his great-uncle getting into a bar brawl with some Austrian soldiers. Billy spent 30 years with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department and he experienced many different jobs during that time including Vice, Special Ops and Narcotics. Some of his stories from his time on the Hostage Negotiation Team have to be heard to be believed! He also takes us through some of the important skills necessary to be successful in a job like that. Billy has received the Cook County Sheriff’s Department Award of Valor and the Lifesaving Award for his incredible efforts on the job. Is there anything this guy doesn’t do?! He spent some time working in the child sex crimes unit, saving innocent lives and locking monsters up. On a lighter note, Billy shares some of the funnier stories from his extensive career including his time working with the Secret Service and his run-in with a hilarious chicken costume. He is a recent retiree and chats about what he is doing with his free time. “What will you miss most about the job?”, Houli asks him. “The good fun and great colleagues” is this police legend’s answer. Billy looks fondly back over his time as Commander and he takes Houli through the main duties that come with that title. He gets serious about his Haemochromatosis diagnosis and he wants the listeners to get checked out and be aware! “I believe there are more good people in the world..” Billy says to end out another insightful and exciting interview with one of Chicago’s cop legends! Then Houli updates us on the most recent obituaries and the latest Irish-American news. We take one final trip to ‘Houli-Town’ to end out another great show this week! Be sure to check out and donate to our worthy fundraiser here to support our show and our First Responders!
