Matt Walsh

McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, Fox’s Pizza, Guinness and the Cork and Kerry Irish Pub present the Hibernian Radio Hour. We continue on our Police Pub Tour at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Western Avenue and this week we welcome 28 year Cook County Sheriff’s Police veteran, Matt Walsh. Matt has been working as Tinley Park’s Chief of Police since August 2018. Houli and Matt are both Carmel graduates and they share their best stories from their time there. Matt also chats about his family with focus on his kids – both of his sons are professional volleyball players, his daughter is a musician in Nashville and his other daughter works for Local 134. Matt worked at the Cook County Sheriff’s Police in many departments including Vice and as Deputy Chief. To say he has many great stories from the last 28 years would be an understatement! He shares some of those stories with Houli including one about a strange accident on Lake Shore Drive, a prostitution sting that didn’t exactly go to plan and busting the ‘Johns’ at massage parlors. The guys chat about the current social unrest and Matt gives his take on the ‘Defund the Police’ movement – “I don’t see it getting better anytime soon..” Matt shares a few more of his ‘war stories’ with Houli before ending the interview with some positive words of wisdom. Houli then brings us up to date on the recent obituaries and we hear from Chubbs Polfus from McGaffer’s Saloon, who are hosting their annual ‘Christmas with a Cause’ event a little differently this holiday season so be sure to stop by one of the drop-off points with some gifts to donate to local charities. We take a musical break with “Christmas in Killarney” by Bing Crosby and then it’s off to ‘Houli-Town’ for some comic relief. The Cloonan Brothers return to play out another fun-filled show this week. Be sure to check out and donate to our worthy fundraiser here to support our Hibernian Radio show and our First Responders and DON’T FORGET – Our annual fundraiser will be on Sunday, December 27th at The Cork and Kerry Irish Pub so mark it on your calendars!
