Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, the Cork and Kerry Irish Pub and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour. We continue on our Police Pub Tour at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Western Avenue and this week we welcome Commander Patty Casey. Patty is a 32 year CPD veteran and she has been working as Commander of Youth Investigations since 2019. Her family’s blood runs blue – her husband, daughter and two sons are all cops! She chats about how she met her husband and her reaction when her kids decided to take the cop test. Patty also chats about her youngest daughter with Special Needs and how she has taught Patty many skills that she uses on the job. Patty grew up in St. Ita’s parish and attended St. Gregory’s High School. She always knew she wanted to be ‘the police’ and she tells Houli about her journey to join CPD. She first began working on the west side and moved onto the Gang & Tactical Team where she did some exciting undercover work. This lady has a very impressive resume including working in Violent Crimes and in the Special Investigation Unit. She is dedicated to helping and understanding young victims and offenders and she shares some of the stories from her time on the job so far. Patty’s advice to new officers is simply, “You have to be able to separate work from home.” Houli and Patty then delve into the seriousness of working on crimes against children on the internet and the dangers of chatting to strangers online – “Watch your kids on their electronics!”. She chats about breaking the glass ceiling in CPD and the importance of having more females in higher job positions. The current social unrest and the ‘Defunding the Police’ movement are just some of the other serious topics she and Houli discuss -“It’s up to us to gain the community’s trust back”. We are honored to have such a distinguished guest with us this week! Houli brings us up to date on the latest obituaries and some upcoming local events. Then we take a musical break with “The Faithful Land” by Gaelic Storm followed by some cheesy jokes to end out another great show. Happy Easter from everyone at Hibernian Radio!
