Jack Gorman and Liam Hopkins

Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, the Cork and Kerry Irish Pub, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour as we continue on our First Responders Tour at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Western Avenue and this week we begin the show by discussing the latest tragedy to hit the CPD. Officer Danny Golden is a 31 year old St. Rita graduate who served as a soldier in the US Army and is a 3rd generation Chicago Police Officer. While out with friends and family last week, he broke up a fight and one of the offenders retrieved a gun from his car and opened fire on Danny and his family, severing Danny’s spinal cord and permanently paralyzing him from the waist down. His friend, Liam Hopkins and cousin, Jack Gorman join us this week and begin their interview by thanking everyone for their support and the CPD and those involved with bringing the offenders to justice. “It’s a great example of the southside coming together!”. These two mention the wonderful feedback from the GoFundMe fundraiser including an anonymous $50k donation as well as all the famous faces who have reached out offering help including Tom Brady and Rob O’Neill.  Liam and Jack describe Danny as selfless, having served his country and put his life on the line his entire career. Jack talks about how strong Danny has been and how h’s carrying the family through it. “The Goldens are going to move mountains/!”. Danny and his fiancee, Casey are getting married next October and the guys end their interview by looking forward to the future. “It seems dark right now but there is a lot to look forward to!”. Be sure to check out their GoFundMe page and help this hero anyway you can!

Houli updates the listeners on some upcoming events including the fundraiser “Cycle Across Illinois” where Cops Cycling For Survivors will be riding. Be sure to come out and support them! And don’t forget – Houli’s annual trip to Ireland is coming up in October with the lovely Eimear Arkins so call Emma at 1-800-664-7474 to book your spot on the trip of a lifetime! Our second guest this week is Mike Donoghue from Mayo who is working in Giordano’s for the summer here in Chicago. Mike got a degree from Limerick in Wood Design and Communication Graphics. He chats about his family, the “mental amount” of Irish students stateside this summer and how difficult it is obtaining a US visa. Mike and his friends plan on traveling around the states including Nashville and the West Coast. Mike ends his interview by sharing his plans for when he returns to Ireland. Then we head over to “Houli-Town” for some Irish-themed humor to end another insightful show. Don’t forget to “fight like a Golden!”
