Houli, Sheriff Sheahan, Johnny “Vegas” Sheahan and Paul Vallas
Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, Big Corner Tavern, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour as we continue on our First Responders Tour and this week’s episode continues our new format on Hibernian Radio as we take a look back at some of our favorite First Responder interviews from over the years. This week we revisit another great show from Christmas Eve 2022 with Mayoral candidate, Paul Vallas. Paul is a southside native with an impressive resume including his time as former Superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools and former CEO of both the School District of Philadelphia and the Chicago Public Schools. Mayor Daley recruited him in 1990 to reform the scandal-ridden Department of Revenue where he revamped the city’s tax and fee system as Budget Director. Paul ran for Governor in 2002 and he was a candidate in the Mayoral election in 2019. Houli says “Vallas is our only hope to save this city as we descend into rampant criminal activity, disrespect for our police, and judges’ hell bent on releasing violent criminals back into our population.” With City of Chicago crime stats at an all-time high, murders rising and as “violent crime continues to soar more than 40% on the streets of Chicago” Houli and Vallas outline the frightening stats on how Chicago is now “a city in crisis”. After telling us of the horrific state of the city that Vallas recently described in a press conference on “public safety”, Mr. Vallas gives us an eye- opening glimpse into his plan to resurrect Chicago from the clutches of the failed leadership of current Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Vallas is an experienced and skillful administrator and with this interview he shows us how he will quickly and efficiently restore the public trust and safety that all yearn for as more and more children die each day under the failed leadership of Lightfoot and Police Commissioner David Brown. It’s refreshing to hear a politician with an actual plan to help police officers do their jobs to “serve and protect”. Chicago needs Vallas if Chicago is to survive this current era of murder and mayhem on the streets of our beloved city. We wish him all the best in next week’s election! Houli then brings us up to date on some upcoming events including Scythian at The Athenaeum on Sunday, March 5th. And don’t forget about the show’s big move to ‘Big Corner Tavern’ at Cermak & First Avenue in North Riverside – Come join us for our first show recording there on March 1st! We head over to the recent obituaries followed by one last stop at “Houli-Town”.
