Eoghain Clavin
Fox’s Pizza, Guinness, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour at our newest recording location, The Beacon Pub in Forest Park and this week we have a different kind of show as we welcome Guinness Brand Ambassador and National Sales Manager, Eoghain Clavin. Eoghain hails from Rahan, located just outside Tullamore in County Offaly and he describes how his family moved to Queens when he was just 2 years old. He has an older brother, Conor, and he looks back over the days when his Dad, Pat, would play football and hurling in the Bronx. “Back in the 80’s, it was fairly rough and ready up there..”. He shares a great story about when his Dad showed up for a hurling semi-final match at Gaelic Park only to be turned away. Eoghain studied Computer Science & Physics at Dublin Institute of Technology where he also played on the college rugby team, going on to tour New Zealand for 3 weeks with Ireland’s Rugby A Team! These two guys share the fact that they both met their wives in Washington DC and Eoghain tells us the story of how his wife, Alyssa, was working for a Congressman at the time “She was a keeper!” They spent some time living in San Diego which is when he began working for Guinness and later moved to Mexico before the pandemic. He shares the story of how he got started with Guinness and takes us through his favorite memories as their West Coast Brand Ambassador including appearing on the Jimmy Kimmel Show multiple times and working with the great Nick Offerman! Eoghain has been celebrating the recent launch of the Guinness Open Gate Brewery here in Chicago. “We want to bring a little bit of Ireland to Chicago”. It has a restaurant and private event space as well as the Brewery itself where they will brew local beers “for the U.S. palate”. He ends a wonderful interview with a discussion on the unique spelling of some Irish names, Eoghain’s name included as well as a brief look at the success of their non-alcoholic drink, Guinness 0. We’re delighted to have this Irish legend on the show! Houli brings us up to date on some upcoming events including our very own 6th Annual Hooligan Ball Fundraiser at Barney Callaghan’s on December 16th! Then it’s over to the obituaries followed by a quick trip to ‘Houli-Town’.
