Nick Mavraganis

Fox’s Pizza in Orland Park & Mokena, Guinness, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour at our newest recording location known as ‘The Bunker’ and this week we welcome honorary Irishman, Nick Mavraganis to the show. Nick is a 12 year Law Enforcement veteran and currently works as a Sergeant in the Mount Prospect Police Department. “It’s enough to keep you interested but not burn you out”. He grew up in Melrose Park and talks about how there was “a real sense of community there”. He mentions how Law Enforcement had a strong presence in his neighborhood growing up and that was a contributing factor to his choice of career. He has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from UIC and began at an Internship with Addison PD. “It was a phenomenal experience!”  Nick also worked as a Dispatcher in Stone Park & Schiller Park and he goes on to share some stories surrounding the interesting characters he met during that time. He has some great work stories to share including getting tased during his Internship and the backlash he received after posting the video online. “It’s not a big deal now but at the time it was!” He worked as a Detective for 4 years, specializing in Financial Crimes and was also assigned the job of Inspector with the Illinois State Police Task Force. The many different scams cops see today and how scammers choose their targets are just some of the other topics Nick discusses with Houli this week. He ends a great interview with a quick look into his family life and he shares his opinion on the ongoing social tensions.  “Every step forward is a step away from the way things used to be.” Houli then brings us up to date on the recent obituaries followed by one quick joke to end another great show this week!
