Fox’s Pizza in Orland Park & Mokena, Guinness, Madden Funds and Flood Brothers Disposal present the Hibernian Radio Hour and this week we begin with some interviews from our recent Annual Hooligan Ball at Barney Callaghan’s. We begin with a quick interview with Kevin Naughton where the guys discuss their long-standing friendship and take a look back at some great memories together. Then we head over to chat briefly with the President of Gaelic Park, Bill O’Sullivan and he chats about his recent trip to Ireland as well as some upcoming events at Gaelic Park. Then we take a dive into the vault and revisit one our favorite interviews from the past year with 32 year CPD veteran, Lt. Ray McInerney. Ray is a Lewis University graduate and a member of the Gaelic Fire Brigade and the Royal Order of Hibernians. He grew up in St. Basil’s/Visitation Parish and attended St. Rita’s High School. He began working as a Cook County Correctional Officer with the Sheriff’s Dept in ’85 and quickly earned a spot as a Fugitive Apprehension Officer in the Electronic Monitoring Unit. He left for the Chicago Police Department in ’91 and he highlights the fact that there were 35,000 others testing with him when he took the CPD test compared to a very small 4,000 people who are testing for the academy today. Ray worked in Patrol, Narcotics, Gangs and ultimately a gun team where he was promoted to Sergeant. He made Lieutenant and was designated 3rd watch Commander of the Patrol Unit in the 22nd District. “I don’t know how these young cops do it, there are no politicians backing them.” He goes on to share some stories from his successful career including a guy who drew a gun on them while undercover in their car and how they used the same guy to get information on dope houses and local dealers. The importance of having reliable partners on the job, the horrific rise in suicide cases among our younger cops and the rocky relationship between CPD and Chicago politicians are just some of the many important topics these two pals discuss on this week’s show. Houli ends this week with the recent obituaries followed by a Christmas message to all our listeners. Merry Christmas all!
