Christine Lawless

Fox’s Pizza in Orland Park & Mokena, Guinness, Madden Funds, Flood Brothers Disposal and our new sponsor, Michael Flatley’s ‘Lord Of The Dance’ present the Hibernian Radio Hour at our newest recording location known as ‘The Bunker’ and this week we begin the show with the latest segment of ‘Black Irishman’ which tells the story of Seamus O’Hooligan Jr, starring Greg Hollimon. Our guest this week is Dr. Christine Lawless who is the Founder of Chicago Irish Singers Club and she begins by mentioning the upcoming ‘Sing with All-Ireland Champions’ Workshop and Concert at Chief O’Neill’s on Feb 24th and Gaelic Park on 25th. Brian O hAirt along with our good friend, Eimear Arkins will be workshop teachers and they will host a concert where participants and teachers perform together. “It’s a real discipline to sing in the Irish language.” Workshop & Concert ticket price is $100, Concert-only ticket is $25 so be sure to get out and support Christine goes on to share the story surrounding the idea for the Chicago Irish Singers Club which stems from her time representing the States at the Fleadh in 2023. This incredible lady is also a Cardiologist and she chats about taking part in heart transplants and how much she misses that kind of work. “It seems like another life right now!” Christine treats our listeners to a mixture of slow and lively Gaelic tunes including “Na Connerys” and “Cad É Sin Don Té Sin”. Her Irish heritage, other singers featured in the workshop and the fascination surrounding the Irish language in Chicago are just some of the topics discussed this week. Christine is a true lady who we are honored to have on the show. We take a musical break with “Brigid of the Flame”, a wonderful song by Sligo-based singer Rainbow Starlight in honor of Ireland’s Saint and Goddess Brigid. Then it’s over to the recent obituaries followed by some more music with “The Darling Girl From Clare” by Eimear Arkins. Houli ends another great show this week on a comedic note with one final joke!
